A self described undersharer and overthinker, from the chilly prairies of Canada, art school dropout and Sony Music Publishing artist La Faute (aka Peggy Messing) is releasing her debut album, Blue Girl Nice Day in late May 2023.

BIO
La Faute is Messing’s dark, dreamy solo project. A visual artist, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter originally from Winnipeg, Canada, she explores themes of surface vs. depth, longing, betrayal, mourning and desire. Using tenor electric guitar and obsolete hardware samplers, she created her captivating live show and released her debut EP just before the pandemic. She chose to pause performing live due to her health, and returned to focusing on creation, finding workarounds to the problem of isolation. She connected with fellow artists and producers in France, the UK, Canada and the US to create music during this time, most recently with LA-based Topher Mohr who produced her upcoming album.

She has received unanimous praise for the first singles from the album. The first, ‘Blue Girl Nice Day’, is an unsettling, haunting song inspired by the Milgram experiments of the 1960s, accompanied by an eerie video that showed the artist making a bed in a windswept field with looming power lines in the background. Her second single, “Watercolours” was a dreamy slow jam about love and obsession, featuring a video of Messing night driving in the rain and getting drenched in a cold downpour. The third single, The Crown, is a trip hop reflection on haunting and deja-vu, with a video created using clips from the cult classic “Carnival of Souls”. The latest videos to be released with the album show both a light and dark side. “Sorry I Can’t Stay” is a sincere ballad with piano and warbling synths, a song of love sung from the point of view of a dying parent. “Let it Burn” is an ominous moody track with driving drums and guitar riffs has an accompanying video created from an early 60s thriller.

La Faute has become increasingly interested in filmmaking, art-directing and shooting music videos for each song herself.

She is a former Girls Rock Camp Toronto volunteer, and found inspiration through helping girls get into music, offering them something that she wished had existed when she was growing up.

LYRICS
Blue Girl Nice Day

I put myself in your place
Now we’re going up a level
The voltage that I change
Up into the threshold of pain
Did you just say something?
Or did you fall silent
Silent

Blue Girl Nice Day
Slow Dance Sweet Taste
Soft Hair Sharp Needle
True Story True Story
True Story

Please don’t make a mistake
It’s going to hurt me more than you
The choices that I make
Let the current flow through
Somewhere someone is crying
and someone falls
silent
silent

Blue Girl Nice Day
Slow Dance Sweet Taste
Soft Hair Sharp Needle
Blunt Arrow True Story
True Story
True Story

The man in the uniform
the man in the white coat
called me a good boy
and gave me a five dollar note

The man in the uniform
the man in the white coat
said be a good girl
and gave me a five dollar note
